Waltham, Mass. (January 10) -- Saint Anselm
came up short on Saturday afternoon as the Hawks dropped a 77-45
final to Bentley University in Northeast-10 women's basketball play
at the Dana Center.
Saint Anselm took a quick 3-0 lead on a three-pointer by
Katie Dorey (Burlington, Vt.)
before the Falcons seized control with a 12-0 run and a nine-point
advantage. After the lead went to double digits, the Hawks got back
to within eight on a layup by Courtney May (Lakeville,
Mass.) with 7:59 remaining the period. Bentley used a 25-8
edge in rebounding in the half to eventually push the lead to the
43-20 halftime advantage. Saint Anselm forced the Falcons into 12
first-half turnovers and was led on the scoreboard in the period by
freshman Megan Howard (St. Paul, Minn.) with seven
points. Bentley shot 68 percent from the field in the period, led
by 10-point periods from Kelly Barrett (Middle Village,
N.Y.) and Kim Brennan (Locust Valley,
N.Y.).
Bentley added to the lead in the opening minutes of the second
half as the Falcons came away with the 32-point victory. Saint
Anselm was led offensively by Howard with 15 points, while May
posted a 14-point, 15-rebound double-double. The double-double is
her fourth of the season. Three Falcons finished in double figures,
led by a 15-point game by Kristy McLean (Staten Island,
N.Y.). Barrett also had a double-double with 14 points and
11 rebounds.
With the loss, Saint Anselm falls to 3-11 overall and 1-8 in the
Northeast-10. Bentley has now won three straight to improve to 11-6
overall and 7-3 in league play. Saint Anselm is back in action on
Wednesday, January 14th as the Hawks host Merrimack for a 5:30 p.m.
