No. Andover, Mass. (September 6) -- On Saturday
evening, the Saint Anselm men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 final to
No. 25 ranked Merrimack at Warrior Field in Northeast-10 Conference
play.
Wayne Sygrove scored his second goal of the
season at the 15:23 mark for the 1-0 Warrior advantage. Merrimack
added another goal one minute later as Matt
Sanderson notched his first score of the season for a 2-0
lead.
Saint Anselm cut the lead in half in the 31st minute as senior
Sam Lamptey (Worcester, Mass.) fought through two
defenders and beat the Merrimack goalie to his left. The goal is
Lamptey's second of the season.
In the 59th, Merrimack's Robbie Sabadoz scored
his fourth goal of the season to close out the scoring and the 3-1
Warrior victory.
Saint Anselm goalie Hunter Wootten (Westhampton Beach,
N.Y.) made eight saves in the loss, while Merrimack keeper
Rob Pedra turned aside four shots for the victory.
With the loss, Saint Anselm falls to 2-2 on the season and 0-1
in Northeast-10 play. The Hawks are back in action on Wednesday,
September 10th as the University of New Haven visits for a 3:30
p.m. start at Melucci Field. It marks the first game for the Hawks
against the Chargers since New Haven joined the Northeast-10
Conference beginning this season.
