Bridgeport,
Conn. (September 27) - The Saint
Anselm women's soccer team fell to the University of Bridgeport 2-0
in a non-conference match Saturday evening. The loss drops the
Hawks to 3-4-2 on the year, while the victory improves the Purple
Knights to 7-1-1 on the season.
The scoring was started by Bridgeport junior forward
Sofia Hoflin
(Ostersund,
Sweden) in the 28th minute when
she took a pass from Linda Velaj
(Stamford,
Conn.) and put it past Hawk
keeper Micaela Smith
(Andover,
Mass.) to make it 1-0. In the
second half, Velaj took the ball from the Hawk defenders off a
corner and scored it past Cooney for a 2-0 final.
The Hawks were led by Michele Dickson
(Manchester,
N.H.) with four shots, however
Saint Anselm was outshot 20-13 by Bridgeport.
Purple Knights goalie Elina Yletyinen
(Lulea,
Sweden) had seven saves in the
shutout victory, while Smith also had seven saves in the loss.
The Hawks return to action Wednesday, October 1st, as they will
travel to Franklin Pierce to face the Ravens at 7 p.m.
