Lowell, Mass.
(September 23)-The Saint Anselm women's soccer
team battled conference rival UMass Lowell to a 2-2 tie Tuesday
night at Cushing Field in Lowell, Massachusetts. The tie makes the
Hawks 3-3-2 overall and 2-1-2 in NE-10 play, while the tie gives
the Riverhawks a 3-2-3 record overall and a 2-1-3 record in
conference play.
The first half was kept scoreless by Hawk goalkeeper
Jacqueline Cooney
(Braintree,
Mass.) and by Riverhawk goalie
Jamie Gillis (N.
Billerica,
Mass.).
In the second half, UMass struck quickly as Hannah
Merullo (Wakefield,
Mass.) took a crossing pass from
teammate Natalia Mendoza
(Haverhill,
Mass.) and put it past Cooney to
make it 1-0. Less than a minute later, Maddy Bissaillon
(Merrimac,
Mass.) received a pass from
Brianne Bozzella
(Wilmington,
Mass.) to put the Riverhawks up
2-0.
The Hawks fought back, and in the games 65th minute
Ryann Cullinan
(Windham,
N.H.) took a rebound off the post
and put it past Gillis to put the Hawks on the scoreboard. Seven
minutes later, Kathleen Kennerly
(Weymouth,
Mass.) put a good boot on a free
kick and Michele Dickson
(Manchester,
N.H.) headed it to notch the
game at 2.
After the rest of the second half, and two overtime periods with
few chances, the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
The Hawks return to the field on Saturday, September 27th, as
they will travel to Bridgeport, Connecticut for a non-conference
game at 6 p.m.
