N.H. (September 20)-The Saint
Anselm women's soccer team upended conference rival Stonehill 2-1
Saturday afternoon at Melucci Field. The win improves the Hawks to
3-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in NE-10 play, while the loss drops the
Skyhawks to 3-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.
The first half was kept scoreless by Hawk goalie
Jacqueline Cooney
(Braintree,
Mass.) and Stonehill keeper
Marissa Bramwell
(Norton,
Mass.).
In the second half the Hawks struck less than five minutes in,
when sophomore midfielder Keara Dolan
(Madison,
Conn.) scored off a rebound from
Heidi Reece (Salem
N.Y.) to put the Hawks up 1-0. In
the games 56th minute, Saint Anselm extended its lead to 2-0, when
Teressa Vercollone
(Pembroke,
Mass.) took a crossing pass from
Jennifer Pearl
(Stoughton,
Mass.) and put it past Bramwell.
The Skyhawks fired back in the games 65th minute, when
Kirstie St. Martin
(Providence,
R.I.) beat the Hawk defenders and
fired it past Cooney to cut the lead in half. However Stonehill
could not get the equalizer and the Hawks went on to the 2-1
victory.
The Hawks will return to action Tuesday, September 23rd, at
conference rival UMass Lowell at 7 p.m.
