Manchester, N.H.
(August 30) - The men's soccer team defeated C. W.
Post on Saturday afternoon by a 4-0 final at Melucci Field. The win
improves the Hawks to 1-1-0 overall while the loss drops C.W. Post
to 0-2-0.
The Pioneers tried to strike first in the 22nd minute
when forward Julian Escobar (Hicksville,
N.Y.) broke free, but was stopped by Hawk goaltender
John Corridan (Holliston, Mass.)
on a diving save. With two minutes left in the first half, freshman
forward Justin Labonte (Pembroke,
Mass.) took a lead pass from Kyle Faucher
(Northwood, N.H.) and drilled it past the Pioneer
goaltender Christopher Kucera (Sayville,
N.Y.).
It was much of the same in the second half as the Hawks added to
the lead in the 80th and 83rd minute with two goals from forward
Jeff Dell'Orfano (N. Andover,
Mass.). With less than five minutes in the game,
Keesan Howe (Norwich, Conn.)
added another goal on a corner from junior Richard
Simmonds (Hooksett, N.H.) for the 4-0
final.
The Hawks return to action Wednesday as they will travel to
Flushing, N.Y. to take on Queens College at 4 p.m. The Pioneers
will try for their first victory of the season on Wednesday against
Felician College in Brookville, N.Y. at 4 p.m.
