Manchester, N.H. (April 5) -- On Saturday
afternoon, the Saint Anselm men's lacrosse team had its three-game
winning streak snapped with a 9-5 loss to No. 1 ranked Le Moyne in
Northeast-10 play at SNHU's Larkin Field.
The Hawks got on the board with 12:22 left in the first quarter
when Steve Trocki (Braintree, Mass.) notched his
13th goal of the season for the early 1-0 lead. Le Moyne answered
back 2:57 later when Jack Venditti (Baldwinsville,
N.Y.) scored the first of his three first-half goals to
even the score at 1-1. Nick Gatto (Syracuse, N.Y.)
also scored, along with two goals from Brian Cost
(Camillus, N.Y.), for the 6-1 Le Moyne halftime lead.
In the second half, the lead swelled to 8-1 in favor of the
Dolphins before Saint Anselm's Mike Humphreys (Rocky Hill,
Conn.) scored his second of the season to make it 8-2.
After Cost scored his fourth of the game for the Dolphins to make
the lead 9-2, Saint Anselm scored three times in the final minutes
to account for the 9-5 final.
Freshman Pat Acone (Bow, N.H.) made 15 saves in
the loss for the Hawks, while Le Moyne's Doug McIver
(Altamont, N.Y.) turned aside seven shots to pick up the
victory and improve to 7-0 on the season.
With the loss, the Hawks drop to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in
Northeast-10 play, while Le Moyne improves to 7-0 overall and 4-0
in the Northeast-10. Saint Anselm is back in action on Wednesday
night as the Hawks travel to Merrimack for a 7 p.m. start at
Warrior Field in North Andover, Mass.
