Hawks Drop 17-7 Final at No. 6 Merrimack

North Andover, Mass. (April 9) -- The Saint Anselm men's lacrosse team fell to No. 6 ranked Merrimack by a 17-7 final at Warrior Field on Wednesday night in Northeast-10 Conference play.

Merrimack jumped out to a 5-0 lead with 5:52 left in the first quarter before Steve Trocki (Braintree, Mass.) got the Hawks on the board with an unassisted score. Jeff Dunkle (Exeter, N.H.) added a man-up goal just 15 seconds later and Chris Murphy (Winchester, Mass.) closed out the first-quarter scoring for a 5-3 Warrior lead after one period. Murphy closed the Hawks to within 5-4 early in the second quarter before three unanswered Merrimack scores made the score 8-4 Warriors at the half.

Merrimack poured it on in the second half with a stretch of six unanswered goals to pull away for the 17-7 win. Murphy and Dunkle led Saint Anselm with three goals each, while Greg Rogowski led Merrimack with a five-goal showing.

Pat Acone (Bow, N.H.) and Dan Flynn (Wakefield, Mass.) split time in net for Saint Anselm, with Acone taking the loss. Cory Spinale made five saves for the Warriors in the victory.

With the loss, the Hawks fall to 5-5 overall and to 3-3 in Northeast-10 Conference play.
