New Haven, Conn. (April 27) -- Despite
outhitting Southern Connecticut 10-8, the Saint Anselm baseball
team dropped its third straight game to the
Owls, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon at the ballpark at
Southern Connecticut State University. The loss drops the Hawks to
15-27 overall, 11-18 in Northeast-10 play. The win improves the
Owls to 30-15, 20-6 in league play.
Southern Connecticut struck for three runs in the second and one
run in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. Mike
Diaz picked up a three-RBI triple to right-center in
the second. After another Diaz triple in the fifth, Kevin
Bowerman brought him in with a weak ground out back to the
pitcher.
The Hawks got back within three with a run in the seventh. After
loading the bases, T.J. Bowler (Pittsfield, Mass.)
walked to bring in the only run the Hawks put up in the game. The
Owls added another run in the eighth on Anthony
Fiorillo's RBI double to seal the 5-1 victory.
Matt Stone (West Roxbury, Mass.) tossed a
complete game for the Hawks, taking the loss to drop his record to
2-5. Stone allowed eight hits and five runs with a strikeout.
Justin Cox took the win for the Owls, improving
his record to 5-3. Cox allowed eight hits and one run over 6.2
innings with a pair of strikeouts. Mike Connors
came in to pick up his fourth save of the season, throwing 2.1
innings allowing just two hits while picking up a strikeout.
Ryan O'Rourke (Norwood, Mass.) led the Hawks'
offense going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Bowler had the only RBI
for the Hawks, going 2-for-4.
The Hawks are back in action n Tuesday, traveling to Merrimack
for a 3:30 p.m. start.
