Manchester, N.H. (April 20) -- On Sunday
afternoon at Sullivan Park, the Saint Anselm baseball team picked
up a split with visiting Assumption. The Hawks took game one by an
8-1 final before dropping the second by an 8-4 score.
In game one, Ben Gunn (Vineyard Haven, Mass.)
led the Hawks with a 3-for-5 showing with three runs batted in and
two runs scored. Ryan Gargan (Byfield, Mass.) also
hammered out three hits, including his seventh double of the
season, to help the 13-hit attack. Assumption managed just four
hits in the game. Andrew Long (Peabody, Mass.)
improved to 4-4 on the mound for the Hawks, while Tim
Scafidi took the loss for Assumption to fall to 0-3 on the
season.
It was all Assumption in game two as the Greyhounds pulled out
to a 6-1 run after five innings of play. The Hawks plated a pair in
the bottom of the seventh behind RBI's from Jimmy Garrigan
(Plymouth, Mass.) and Tim Griswold (Holmdel,
N.J.) to get within 6-3, but could get no closer.
Adam Hussey (Danvers, Mass.) was the lone Hawk
with multiple hits in the game, while Kyle Lavin (Shelton,
Conn.) took the loss for Saint Anselm after six innings of
work.
Saint Anselm returns to action on Tuesday evening as the Hawks
travel to Franklin Pierce for a 6 p.m. start in Rindge.
