Hawks Drop No. 8 Franklin Pierce

Rindge, N.H. (April 22) -- Saint Anselm scored three runs in the top of the ninth to come away with a 6-3 win over No. 8 ranked Franklin Pierce on Tuesday night in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Hawks improve to 14-24 overall, 10-15 in Northeast-10 play. The Ravens drop to 29-10-1, 14-8-1 in conference play.

The Ravens jumped on the board in the first with back to back doubles from Scott Savastano and Derek Ingui to go up 1-0 but the Hawks tied it up in the third as Matt Sucharewicz (Peabody, Mass.) singled in Adam Hussey (Danvers, Mass.).

Franklin Pierce took a one-run lead again in the fifth when Kevin Renaud brought in Ted Lerud with a sacrifice fly. However, the Hawks took the lead in the next inning. T.J. Bowler (Pittsfield, Mass.) singled in Eric Baca (Franklin, N.H.) and Hussey brought in Ryan O'Rourke (Norwood, Mass.) with a sacrifice fly.

The Ravens came back with a single run in the sixth. A sacrifice fly from Randy Bernosky scored Savastano and tied the game up at three apiece.

After neither team scored in the seventh or eighth, the Hawks came up with three runs in the top of the ninth to take a three-run lead. Ryan O'Rourke delivered the big blow with a two-RBI single to center. Then, Evan Kelleher (Haverhill, Mass.) added to the lead with an RBI single. Nick Barese (Braintree, Mass.) came in to earn his first save of the season in the bottom of the ninth in his first relief appearance of the year.

Matt Stone (West Roxbury, Mass.) pitched well to earn his second win of the season, allowing eight hits over eight innings with three runs allowed and six strikeouts. Barese threw a perfect ninth inning, picking up a strikeout.

Kyle Vazquez started the game for the Ravens and allowed three runs on nine hits through 7.2 innings, picking up nine strikeouts along the way for a no-decision. Heath Wasylow took the loss for the Ravens, dropping his record to 2-1.

The Hawks are back in action on Thursday, hosting Franklin Pierce at 3:30 p.m. at Sullivan Park.
