Hawks Drop Lopsided Pair at Assumption

Worcester, Mass. (April 19) -- The Saint Anselm baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Assumption on Saturday afternoon in Worcester, Mass. The sweep improves Assumption to 14-23 overall, 7-16 in Northeast-10 play. The Hawks fall to 12-23, 8-15 in conference play.

Assumption scored in every inning except for the seventh in game one, as four different Greyhounds had a multi-hit game in a 13-1 victory. Mike Baillargeon went 4-for-4 with three runs batted in, Wally Derosier went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in, Jeff Barbale went 3-for-6 with an RBI and tossed a complete game, and Shawn Frigon went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

The Hawks lone run came in the fifth inning, as Evan Kelleher (Haverhill, Mass.) singled in Ryan O'Rourke (Norwood, Mass.).

Mike Fantini (Haverhill, Mass.) suffered the loss for the Hawks, dropping his record to 0-3 on the mound. Barbale tossed a complete game for the Greyhounds, allowing just four hits and one run with seven strikeouts.

The Greyhound bats stayed alive for the second game, as they pounded out 17 hits for the second game in a row, taking the victory 15-3. Assumption scored in every inning except for the first, fourth, and seventh. All nine Greyhound starters finished with a hit in the game, as Josh Dufresne did the most damage with a 3-for-4 game with three RBIs and three runs scored.

The Hawks posted a run in the third to cut the lead to 2-1, as T.J. Bowler (Pittsfield, Mass.) had a fielder's choice and Eric Baca (Franklin, N.H.) scored on the play. The Greyhounds posted six runs in the bottom of the inning though to extend the lead to 8-1.

The Hawks posted another run in the fourth, as Ryan O'Rourke singled in Adam Hussey (Danvers, Mass.). Down 9-2, the Hawks posted another single run in the sixth when a ground out from Ryan Gargan (Byfield, Mass.) brought in Matt Stone (West Roxbury, Mass.).

Tim Ryan (Milton, Mass.) took the loss for the Hawks, dropping his record to 1-3. Dustin Wirzburger picked up the win for the Greyhounds, improving his record to 2-4.

The Hawks are back in action tomorrow, hosting Assumption for a doubleheader starting at Noon at Sullivan Park.
