Waltham, Mass. (March 22) -- Senior
Steve Trocki (Braintree, Mass.) scored four goals
as the Saint Anselm men's lacrosse team held off a late Bentley
charge for a 9-8 win over the Falcons in Waltham, Mass., on a
blustery Saturday afternoon.
Kevin Gould got Bentley off to a 1-0 lead with
1:49 left in the opening quarter before Trocki knotted the score at
1-1 just 43 seconds later to tie it after one period. With the
Hawks leading 3-2 with time winding down in the second quarter,
Chris Murphy (Winchester, Mass.) and Trocki scored
two goals within 36 seconds to make it a 5-2 Saint Anselm advantage
going into halftime. The visitors came out flying in the third
quarter as well and heading into the final period, it was Saint
Anselm in full control at 9-3.
Bentley came roaring back though with five unanswered scores,
including four within a span of 3:22, to close to within 9-8 with
under a minute remaining in the game. The Hawks held on though for
their second straight win, both on the road.
Freshman Pat Acone (Bow, N.H.) was outstanding
in goal for the Hawks with a 24-save effort, while Bentley
netminders Kris Dambach and Andy
Collette split time in goal for the Falcons. Dambach made
four saves in the loss, while Collette turned aside six shots.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in
Northeast-10 play, while the Falcons now sit at 2-2 overall and 0-1
in Northeast-10 action. Saint Anselm is back in action on Saturday,
March 29th as the Hawks travel to Assumption for a 1 p.m. start in
Worcester, Mass.
