Albany, N.Y. (March 18) -- The baseball team
dropped a 3-1 final at Saint Rose on Tuesday afternoon at Bleecker
Stadium. The loss drops the Hawks to 5-9, 1-2 Northeast-10. The win
improves the Golden Knights to 3-13, 1-0 in conference play.
The Hawks got on the board in the top of the first, as
Adam Hussey (Danvers, Mass.) singled to open the
game and moved up to second on a failed pickoff attempt.
Ryan Gargan (Byfield, Mass.) singled him in later
in the inning to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead.
The Golden Knights responded with two runs in the bottom of the
inning though. Sean Weber (East Schodach, N.Y.)
and Nick Polsinelli (Schnectady, N.Y.) singled to
open up the inning. A sacrifice bunt from Jake Perez (North
East, Pa.) moved up the runners, while John Cole
(Spring Valley, N.Y.) brought in Sean Weber with a
sacrifice fly on the next batter. Brett Weber (Schodach,
N.Y.) singled in Polsinelli to give the Golden Knights a
2-1 lead.
After three innings of scoreless play, the Golden Knights picked
up an insurance run in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. Brett Weber
reached on an error, stole second, and later scored on a sacrifice
fly from Victor Tolentino (Santo Domingo, D.R.).
Shining for the Hawks picking up two hits each were Hussey and
Gargan, but the Hawks only mustered one run in the game.
Matt Stone (West Roxbury, Mass.) picked up the
tough luck loss on the mound, tossing his first complete game of
the season. Stone gave up just two earned runs on seven hits with
one strikeout, but his record dropped to 0-2 on the hill.
Jeremiah St. Louis (Tupper Lake, N.Y.) threw a
complete game for the Golden Knights, allowing one run on five
strikeouts, improving his record to 1-3 on the season.
The Hawks return to the field on Thursday, facing off against
Saint Rose at 3 p.m. at Sullivan Park.
