Manchester, N.H. (February 23) -- Pat
Forshner's (Natick, Mass.) two third period goals put the
Hawks ahead for good to lead Saint Anselm to its fifth-straight
victory on Saturday afternoon over Southern Maine,
4-2, at Sullivan Arena. The win improves the Hawks to 10-10-3,
5-10-3 ECAC East. The loss drops Southern Maine to 14-8-3, 8-8-3
ECAC East to finish the regular season.
The Huskies struck first at the 5:46 mark,
when Kyle Smith (Auburn, Maine) scored
off a loose rebound. Mike Stevens (Dover, N.H.)
and Ben Loss (Wilmette, Ill.) assisted on the
goal. The Hawks evened it up though at the 17:34 mark.
Brian Hartigan (Saugus, Mass.) found the back of
the net on the power play, assisted by Matt Grazioso
(Quincy, Mass.) and Coleman Noonan (Norfolk,
Mass.). The game went into the second period tied at one.
After a scoreless second period, Dan Gordon (Lynnfield,
Mass.) scored on the power play at the 2:46 mark to put
Southern Maine up 2-1. Loss and Paul Conter (Woodbridge,
Ontario) assisted on the goal. Forshner's first goal of
the game came just 39 seconds later to tie the game up at two,
assisted by Mike Foley (Medford, Mass.) and
Colin Fitzpatrick (Westwood, Mass.). Forshner
struck again at the 5:59 mark with the eventual game-winner just
two seconds off a won face-off in the opposing zone, assisted by
Foley. Grazioso scored an insurance goal at the 15:25 mark,
assisted by Ryan Butler (Arlington, Mass.) and
Noonan.
The Hawks have two regular season games remaining, as the
Vikings of Salem State visit Sullivan Arena tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
The Hawks then travel to Stonehill on Thursday, February 28th, for
both teams' final Northeast-10 regular season game at 6:50 p.m.
