Orangeburg, N.Y. (November 16) -- On day two of
the Dominican Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday afternoon, the Saint
Anselm women's basketball team dropped a 62-52 final to Nyack
College in non-conference action.
In the first half, the Chargers jumped out to a quick 19-9 lead
before the Hawks answered with a 6-0 run to pull within four at
19-15 after a pair of free throws from Megan Howard (St.
Paul, Minn.). Dominican pushed the lead back to as
many as nine before a three-point play by Katie Dorey
(Burlington, Vt.) in the final seconds sent the game into
the half at 32-26 in favor of the Chargers.
In the opening 6:20 of the second period, the Chargers saw their
lead swell to 40-32 after a three-pointer by Adele
Laskowski. By the 7:54 mark, the Hawks had capped an 8-0
run with two free throws by Katie Larkin (Goffstown,
N.H.) to tie the game at 40-40. Dominican regained the
lead shortly thereafter, but the game was a two-point contest
heading into the final two minutes of regulation. After the Hawks
made it 56-52 with 36 seconds left, the Chargers closed on a 6-0
run for the 62-52 final.
Howard scored in double figures for the second straight game
with a 12-point effort to go along with seven rebounds.
Courtney May (Lakeville, Mass.) was also in double
figures with 10 points, while Jennifer Gureckis (Nashua,
N.H.) had nine point, six rebounds and a team-best five
assists.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-2 overall on the season,
while Dominican now sits at 1-1 on the season. Saint Anselm is back
in action on Wednesday evening as the Hawks host Pace for a 5:30
p.m. start at Stoutenburgh Gym.
