Hawks Stung by Yellow Jackets

Springfield, Mass. (October 8)-The Saint Anselm women's soccer team was out shot by American International 14-9 in a 2-0 Northeast 10 conference loss in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The Yellow Jackets and Hawks were kept scoreless for most of the first-half, until the 37th minute when Sarah Tomlinson (Clitheroe, England) scored past Hawk keeper Michaela Smith (Andover, Mass.) to make it 1-0. Six minutes later, Cassie Ashwell (Agawam, Mass.) doubled the Yellow Jacket lead by beating Smith for a 2-0 final.

American International goalie Kara Potts (Westfield, Mass.) set aside two shots for a shutout victory, while Hawk goalkeepers Smith and Jacqueline Cooney (Braintree, Mass.) set aside two shots each.

The loss drops the Hawks to 3-7-2 overall and 2-4-2 in NE-10 play, and the victory for the Yellow Jackets improves them to 8-4-1 overall and 3-4-1 in conference play.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, October 11th, as they will travel to Pace University for a 3 p.m. start.
