Manchester, N.H. (October 8) -- Led by a hat
trick from senior forward Sam Lamptey (Worcester,
Mass.), the Saint Anselm men's soccer team won its second
straight game with a 4-1 win over American International on
Wednesday afternoon. Lamptey now has six goals in his last five
games as the Hawks are winners of three of their last four league
contests.
Lamptey got the Hawks on the board in the 10th minute and added
to that lead just four minutes later as he scored on a header to
make it 2-0. The play was set up by a pass from Giuseppe La
Rocca (Gloucester, Mass.). The Yellow Jackets closed to
within 2-1 in the 32nd minute on a penalty kick from Benard
Kessie (Worcester, Mass.) and the game went into halftime
with that score.
The Hawks had a penalty kick of their own in the 50th minute as
Lamptey completed the hat trick for the 3-1. The hat trick is the
first of his career for the Hawks. Justin Labonte
(Pembroke, Mass.) added his second career goal, off an
assist from Lamptey, to make it a 4-1 final.
Junior goalie John Corridan (Holliston, Mass.)
made two saves in the victory, while Joseph Ferrentino
(East Longmeadow, Mass.) turned aside six shots in net for
AIC in the loss.
With the win, Saint Anselm improves to 5-6-1 overall and is .500
in the league at 3-3-1. American International drops to 3-8-2
overall and is 1-5-2 in the Northeast-10. The Hawks are back in
action on Saturday afternoon as the team travels to Stonehill for a
1 p.m. start in Easton, Mass.
