Manchester, N.H. (October 18)-- The Saint
Anselm women's soccer team defeated conference foe Le Moyne College
2-0 in a key conference game at Melucci Field Saturday afternoon.
The win pushes the Hawks past the Dolphins in the conference
standings putting them in eighth place with a record of 5-4-2 in
the NE-10.
The scoring started when sophomore forward Jennifer
Pearl (Stoughton, Mass.) passed it into the box for junior
midfielder Bethany Dunn (Plymouth, Mass.) and she
put it past Dolphin keeper Amanda Abbatiello (Liverpool,
N.Y.) to make it 1-0. With four minutes left in the first
half, the Hawks added another as Teresa Vercollone
(Pembroke, Mass.) took a pass from Erika Sartor
(Andover, Mass.) to make it 2-0 Hawks in the first stanza.
In the second half, Pearl stole the ball from the Dolphin
defenders and found a cutting Vercollone to make it 3-0 with only
15 minutes to play.
Hawk goaltender Jacqueline Cooney (Braintree,
Mass.) had five saves in the shutout victory, while
Abbatiello had three saves in the loss.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday, October 21st, as they will
travel to SNHU for another key conference match beginning at 7 p.m.
