Middletown, Conn. (January 18) -- The men's
hockey team dropped a 4-2 final to Wesleyan in Middletown,
Conn., Friday night. The loss drops the Hawks to 5-4-3, 3-4-3 in
league play, while the Cardinals improve to 5-5-1, 3-3-1 in
league action.
The Cardinals struck first, when Derek Davidson
(Southington, Conn.) found the back of the net at the 4:50
mark in the first frame, assisted by Alex Shklyarevsky (San
Jose, Calif.) and Sean Gallagher (Chaska,
Minn.). The Hawks tied it up soon though, with
Mike Adams (Bedford, Mass.) scoring his third goal
of the season on the power play, assisted by Brian Hartigan
(Saugus, Mass.)and Mike Nunzianto (Guilford,
Conn.) at the 6:25 mark. The Cardinals then re-took the
lead at the 10:50 mark, when David Layne (Flourtown,
Pa.) scored, assisted by J.J. Evans (Orland Park,
Ill.) and Sam Robinson (Winchester,
Mass.). Wesleyan took the 2-1 lead into the second period.
After a scoreless second period, the Cardinals scored two goals
15 second apart from each other just over four minutes into the
third period. Brenton Stafford (Cranston, R.I.)
scored at the 4:26 mark, assisted by Robinson, while
Anthony DePietto (Westbury, N.Y.) scored his
second goal of the season at the 4:41 mark, assisted by Evans and
Dallas Bossort (Bismarck, N.D.), giving Wesleyan a
4-1 advantage. The Hawks cut the lead to 4-2 at the 7:41 mark, when
Paul Snell (Groton, Mass.) scored, assisted
by Colin Fitzpatrick (Westwood, Mass.) and
Seth Goodrich (Salisbury, Vt.), but the Hawks
could not muster any more offense, falling to the Cardinals, 4-2.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow, as Trinity hosts Saint
Anselm at 3 p.m. at the Koeppel Community Sports Center in
Hartford, Conn.
