Colchester, Vt. (January 12) - The men's
basketball team turned in a 2:33 second performance never to forget
in a 75-71 victory over Saint Michael's Saturday afternoon at the
Ross Sports Center. The win improves the Hawks to 7-7, 5-5
Northeast-10, while the loss drops the Purple Knights to 6-8, 4-6
in league play.
Down 71-62 heading into the final 2:33 seconds, the Hawks went
on a 13-0 run to comeback and win what appeared to be an
insurmountable nine-point lead with just over 2:30 to play. Leading
the way for the Hawks was senior Chris Vetrano
(Andover, Mass.)
with 18 points going 7-for-12 from the field, seven assists and
five steals. Greg Vetrano
(Andover, Mass.)
scored 11 points for the Hawks going 9-for-12 from the free throw
line, while Junior Mitchell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a
strong performance off the bench picking up 11 points and six
boards.
The Purple Knights had strong performances from Ryan
Rodrigues
(Acushnet, Mass.)
and Brian Monahan
(Kinderhook, N.Y.).
Rodrigues led all scoring with 22 points, while Monahan scored 17
and had 14 rebounds. Chris White
(Windham, N.H) also
played well, scoring 11 points and picking up six boards.
The Hawks return to action Wednesday, January 16th, hosting
Bentley at 7:30 p.m. at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
