Manchester, N.H. (January 16) -- Saint Anselm
couldn't overcome an outstanding shooting performance from
top-ranked Bentley as the Hawks fell to the Falcons by a 100-78
final on Wednesday night at Stoutenburgh Gym. The Falcons knocked
down 15 three-pointers to power the team to the win to remain
perfect on the season.
Bentley began the game on a 21-0 run over the first six minutes
before Jeff Dickson (Bedford, N.H.) got the Hawks
on the board with 13:52 left in the period. The Falcons continued
to shoot lights out though and took a 53-30 lead into the halftime
break. Bentley shot an incredible 61.8 percent from the field in
the first half, including 80 percent from three-point land with
8-for-10 shooting. Yusuf Abdul-Ali (Springfield,
Mass.) led the Falcons with 15 points, followed by
Jason Westrol (Brielle, N.J.) with 14 points.
Freshman Thomas Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.) led
the Hawks with eight points in the half, including a pair of
three-pointers.
In the second half, the Falcons stretched the lead to as many as
29 points on two occasions before the Hawks cut the lead down to 17
points at 79-62 with 8:29 left following a pair of Baudinet free
throws. Bentley regrouped though as the Falcons won their 42nd
straight regular-season game and 45th straight over Northeast
region opponents.
Junior Mitchell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) paced four
Hawks in double figures with a 17-point effort. Baudinet ended the
game with 15 points, along with Dickson with 12 and
Branimir Zeko (Mississauga, Ontario) with 11
points. Westrol led the Falcons with a career-high 23 points and
was joined in double figures by Lew Finnegan (Lexington,
Mass.) with 20 points, Abdul-Ali at 17 and Nate
Fritsch (Durham, N.C.) with 12. As a team, the Falcons
shot a remarkable 75 percent from three-point land, knocking down
15-of-20 from deep.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 7-8 overall and 5-6 in the
Northeast-10, while Bentley remains perfect at 15-0 overall and
10-0 in the league. Saint Anselm is back in action on Saturday
afternoon as the Hawks take on American International at 3:30 p.m
in Springfield, Mass.
