Waterville, Maine (January 11) --
The Saint Anselm men's hockey team had its three-game winning
streak snapped with a 6-2 loss to Colby on Friday night in
Waterville, Maine. The win improves Saint Anselm to 5-1-3,
while the loss drops the Mules to 5-5-0.
Colby struck first, as Joe Rothwell scored at the 5:34 mark in
the first on a 4-on-4 situation, assisted by Josh Reber and Arthur
Fritch. The Mules took the 1-0 lead into the second period.
The Mules scored a pair of goals quickly into the second, as
T.J. Kelley scored at the 1:02 mark, assisted by Reber and Fritch,
while Eric Simmons scored at the 1:57 mark, assisted by Matt Ahern
and Ryan Chrenek. Colby extended the lead to 4-0 when Kelley struck
again, this time on the power play, assisted by Reber and Fritch.
The Hawks got on the board late in the second as Mike
Adams
(Bedford,Mass.)
netted his second goal of the season at the 16:14 mark. However,
the Mules responded later in the period to get back the four-goal
lead, when Kelley polished off his hat trick, assisted by Reber and
Chrenek, at the 19:28 mark. The Mules took the 5-1 lead into the
third period.
The Hawks scored quickly into the third period, as Matt
Grazioso (Quincy, Mass.) scored just 13 seconds into the
period, assisted by Ryan Butler (Arlington,
Mass.), cutting the Mules' lead to 5-2.
The Mules finished off the scoring when Eric Simmons scored at
the 2:35 mark to account for the 6-2 final.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 5-2-3 overall and 3-2-3 in ECAC
East play, while Colby improves to 6-4 overall and 5-1-0 in league
play. The Hawks return to the ice tomorrow, January 12th, as
Bowdoin hosts the Hawks at 4 p.m. at the Sid Watson Ice Arena.
