Hawks Drop Homecoming Game to C.W. Post, 41-13

Manchester, N.H. (September 29) -- On Saturday afternoon at the annual Homecoming Game, the Saint Anselm football team dropped a 41-13 final to C.W. Post in Northeast-10 Conference play.

C.W. Post capitalized on a Saint Anselm fumble on the first play from scrimmage and connected on a 30-yard touchdown pass to Chris Bone (Inwood, N.Y.) from Nick Georgetti (Holbrook, N.Y.) just 23 seconds into the first quarter. Bone added to the scoring with 26 seconds left in the first half when he hauled in a 24-yard pass for his second TD of the game. The Pioneers extended the lead with 8:59 left in the second quarter on a 16-yard touchdown run from Anthony Lazarus (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) before the Hawks answered with a pair of scores.

With 6:34 left in the half, Conor Cahill (Salem, Mass.) pulled down a 32-yard touchdown pass from Nick Barese (Braintree, Mass.) to cut the lead to 21-6. The Hawks forced a C.W. Post fumble on the next possession and punched it for another score on an eight-yard TD pass to Ryan Drago (Plymouth, Mass.). The Pioneers rebounded quickly though with a 38-yard scoring strike to Bone with 3:03 remaining in the half as the teams went to halftime 27-13 in favor of C.W. Post.

The third quarter nearly ended as a scoreless period before Lazarus busted through the Saint Anselm defense with 3:10 left in the period for a 48-yard TD run and a 34-13 lead. The visitors extended the lead to 41-13 with 10:40 remaining on a four-yard TD by junior Paul Jennings (Jamaica, N.Y.) for his first touchdown of the season.

For Saint Anselm, Barese ended the game 19-of-35 for 162 yards and two touchdowns, while Cahill led the team on the ground with 57 yards on 17 carries. Senior wide receiver Corey Williams (Billerica, Mass.) finished with a team-high 73 yards on five receptions. Defensively, junior Brian Tormollan (Waterville, Maine) led the team with eight total tackles. Senior All-America candidate Casey Larson (Pascoag, R.I.) finished with seven tackles, including three tackles for a loss and one sack.

For the Pioneers, Georgetti ended the day 11-for-15 for 235 yards and three touchdowns. Bone was on the receiving end of all three scores as he pulled down seven passes for 145 yards. Lazarus was a monster on the ground for C.W. Post as he posted a 187-yard afternoon on 21 carries.

With the loss, the Hawks are now 0-4 overall and 0-3 in Northeast-10 play, while C.W. Post improves to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in league play. Saint Anselm is back in action next Saturday, October 6th, as the Hawks travel to Stonehill for a 1 p.m. start in Easton, Mass.
