Manchester, N.H. (September 22) -- The women's
soccer team defeated UMass Lowell 2-0 on Saturday morning at
Melucci Field. The win improves the Hawks to 5-5-0 overall,
3-3-0 Northeast-10, while the loss drops UMass Lowell to 6-4-0,
2-4-0 Northeast-10.
UMass Lowell outshot the Hawks five to one in the first half,
but Jackie Cooney (Braintree, Mass.) stopped the
three shots on net, as the teams played to a 0-0 tie going into
halftime.
In the 56th minute, Heidi Reece (Hoosick Falls,
N.Y.) netted her third goal of the season off the rebound
to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Mary Kate Heavey (Medfield, Mass.) added
an insurance goal at the 76:18 mark, assisted by Christine
Cochrane (Concord, N.H.), giving the Hawks a two goal lead
with less than 14 minutes left to play.
Cooney made three more saves in the second half, recording her
fourth shutout of the season.
The Hawks return to the field on Tuesday, September 25, heading
to Stonehill for a 4:00 p.m. start.
