Hawks Drop 2-1 Final to Bentley

Waltham, Mass. (September 19) -- The Saint Anselm women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 final to Bentley on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 action.

Saint Anselm took a 1-0 lead late in the first half when Jennifer Pearl (Stoughton, Mass.) scored her second goal of the year off an assist from Kayla Pitney (Needham, Mass.). Bentley evened the score at 67:07 though when Cheryl Boyd scored an unassisted goal and pulled out the win when Tara Petitto tallied her third goal of the year with under six minutes left.

Freshman Jacqueline Cooney (Braintree, Mass.) made one save in the first half for the Hawks, followed by Micaela Smith (Andover, Mass.) with five saves in the loss. Bentley goalkeeper Kara Smith turned aside eight shots in the victory.

With the loss, the Hawks fall to 4-5-0 overall and 2-3-0 in Northeast-10 play. Saint Anselm is back in action on Saturday, September 22nd when the team hosts UMass Lowell for a Northeast-10 contest beginning at 11 a.m. at Melucci Field. The game is part of a doubleheader as the men's team takes on Merrimack at 2 p.m. on Saturday as well.
