Manchester, N.H. (September 12) -- Sophomore
Heidi Reece (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) scored the only
goal of the game at the 11:33 mark to lift Saint Anselm to a 1-0
victory over crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday
afternoon at Melucci Field.
The Hawks outshot the Penmen by a 5-2 margin in the first half
and capitalized early on the goal from Reece, assisted on by
Michelle Nuzzo (Dedham, Mass.). The goal was the
second of the year for Reece. Southern New Hampshire owned a
6-1 edge in shots in the second half, but were unable to squeak a
shot past Saint Anselm goalkeeper Jacqueline Cooney
(Braintree, Mass.).
Cooney turned aside four SNHU shots, while Stef
Young made three saves in the loss for the Penmen.
Saint Anselm improves to 4-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in Northeast-10
play, while Southern N.H. falls to 3-3-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the
Northeast-10. The Hawks are back in action on Saturday, September
15th as the team hosts No. 5 Franklin Pierce for a 2 p.m. start at
Melucci Field.
