Manchester, N.H. (August 24) -- Powered by
three second-half goals, the Saint Anselm women's soccer team came
away with a 4-0 win over Dowling in non-conference action on Friday
afternoon at Melucci Field. The game marked the season opener for
both teams.
The Hawks got on the board midway through the opening half when
Ryann Cullinan (Windham, N.H.) tallied her fifth
career goal to give the home team a 1-0 edge. After heading into
the halftime break at the same score, the Hawks blew the game open
in the second half with three goals in less than a four-minute
span. Erika Sartor (Andover, Mass.)
scored her first career goal at the 74:57 mark, followed by a
penalty-kick score from Mary Kate Heavey (Medfield,
Mass.) and an unassisted tally from Kathleen
Kennerley (Weymouth, Mass.) at the 78:39 mark to
close out the scoring.
Jacqueline Cooney (Braintree, Mass.) picked up
the win for Saint Anselm as she turned aside three shots, while
Alicia Commiso took the loss after making
five saves.
The Hawks are now 1-0-0 overall and are back in action on Sunday
morning as the team hosts No. 19 ranked Saint Leo at Melucci Field
beginning at 11 a.m.
