Manchester, N.H. (December 4) -- With Saint Anselm trailing by 14 points with 16:29 remaining in the game, senior co-captain Chris Vetrano (Andover, Mass.) put the Hawks on his back with 34 second-half points as the Hawks rallied to defeat Southern New Hampshire by an 87-78 final. Vetrano ended the game with 42 points, the fourth-highest single-game total in school history.

In the first half, the Penmen came out firing and led by a 13-6 margin just 5:32 into the game. Saint Anselm battled back though and with 8:33 left, took an 18-16 lead following a layup by Junior Mitchell (Brooklyn, N.Y.). The advantage was shortlived though as the Penmen embarked on a 19-7 run and pushed the lead to double digits at 35-25 with 2:46 remaining. The Penmen led by as many as 13 points before a three-pointer by Greg Vetrano (Andover, Mass.) and a jumper by Chris Vetrano cut the lead down to eight at the break at 43-35.

In the second half, the Penmen continued to shoot lights out and after a layup by Sam Carey the visitors led by a 54-40 margin with 16:29 remaining. Over the next 5:59 though, the Hawks went on a remarkable 20-0 run that was capped off by a layup by Chris Vetrano. The Penmen tied the game three more times, including for a final time at 71-71 with 4:51 remaining on a layup and a free throw by Chris Brickley. Greg Vetrano knocked down one of his four three-pointers on the next possession though to give the Hawks the lead for good.

Chris Vetrano ended the game with his career-best 42 points and is now just four points shy of 1,000 for his career. His brother, Greg, came away with a 21-point effort with four three-pointers in 29 minutes. Troy Bowen led four Penmen in double figures with 21 points, while Carey had the game's lone double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

With the win, the Hawks snap a three-game losing streak and are now 3-3 overall and 3-2 in league play.
