Saratoga Springs, N.Y. (November 16) -- Saint
Anselm's men's hockey team opened its 2007-08 season with a 5-5 tie
at Saratoga Springs City Rink. The Hawks took an early 4-1 lead in
the first period, but the Thoroughbreds scored three goals in the
third period to send the game into overtime. Neither team scored in
the overtime period.
The Hawks scored four unanswered goals in the first period, with
the first three goals coming in a four minute span.
Coleman Noonan (Norfolk, Mass.) scored his first
collegiate goal at the 5:21 mark, assisted by Mike Nunziato
(Guilford, Conn.). Colin Fitzpatrick (Westwood, Mass.)
made the score 2-0 at the 8:28 mark, assisted by Mike Foley
(Medford, Mass.). Pat Forshner (Natick, Mass.) made it 3-0
when he scored unassisted at the 9:14 mark. Joe Fernald
(Braintree, Mass.) made it 4-0 when he scored at the 15:18
mark, assisted by Nick Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.). The
Hawks went into the end of the period with a 4-1 lead.
The Hawks added a fifth goal at the 7:53 mark in the second
period when Matt Grazioso (Quincy, Mass.) scored
off a Seth Goodrich (Salisbury, Mass.) pass. The
Hawks went into the second intermission with a 5-2 lead.
The Thoroughbreds turned the tables on the Hawks in the third
period, scoring three unanswered goals. Brett Bandazian
(Wyckoff, N.J.) scored at the 7:54 mark making the score
5-3. The Hawks did not take advantage of a 5-on-3, keeping the
momentum in favor of Skidmore. Bandazian added his second goal of
the game at the 11:58 mark, cutting the deficit to one goal, 5-4.
Steve Keady (Canton, Mass.) tied it up at the
16:51 mark.
The Hawks travel to Castleton State on Saturday for a 3 p.m.
start. Skidmore hosts New England College at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
