Manchester, N.H. (October 3) -- Sophomore
Mary Kate Heavey (Medfield, Mass.) (pictured
right) scored 12 seconds into the second overtime to lift Saint
Anselm to a 2-1 win over Saint Michael's in Northeast-10 women's
soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.
Heavey scored her first goal just 14:45 into the game off a free
kick before Katie Burdett (Milford, N.H.) tied the
game at 1-1 late in the first half. Her goal was assisted on by
Skylar Bryan (No. Yarmouth, Maine). Both teams had
chances in the second half, including one Saint Michael's shot that
was cleared off the goal line by the Saint Anselm defense. After a
scoreless second half and first overtime, Heavey ended the game
with a shot from outside the box, which found the left side of the
net for the game winner.
Molly Cole (Dover, N.H.) made four saves for
the Purple Knights in the loss. For the Hawks, Micaela
Smith (Andover, Mass.) played the first half and made one
save, while freshman Jacqueline Cooney (Braintree,
Mass.) made two saves in 55:12 of play to pick up the win.
With the win, the Hawks even their record at 6-6-1 overall and
4-4-1 in the NE-10, while the Purple Knights fall to 6-5-2 overall
and 2-5-2 in league play. Saint Anselm is back in action on
Saturday, October 6th as the team travels to Saint Rose for a
league game beginning at 2 p.m. in Albany, N.Y.
