Manchester, N.H. (October 19) -- Led
by Alana McNeil's (Lawrence, Mass.) 25 kills,
the Hawks defeated Southern Connecticut, 3-2 (30-24, 17-30, 30-26,
23-30, 15-13), Friday evening at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium. The
win improves the Hawks to 3-16, 2-9 Northeast-10, while the loss
drops Southern Connecticut to 10-19 overall, 2-8 in league play.
For the Hawks, McNeil posted 25 kills along with a team-high
four blocks. Stephanie Devlin (Middleton,
Mass.) pitched in on offense with 10 kills, while
recording nine digs, and 1.5 blocks. Kelly O'Dea
(Andover, Mass.) led the team in passing with 47 assists,
while Samantha Regan (Danville, N.H.) posted 23
digs. Crystal Vaughn (Farmington, N.H.) also
helped the Hawks with a solid performance, picking up eight kills,
four service aces, and 19 digs.
For the Owls, Lauren Coombs (Trumbull, Conn.)
and Nekane Mendizabal (Stratford, Conn.) led the
team with 16 kills. Ashley Coombs (Trumbull,
Conn.) recorded 27 assists, while Robin Priest
(Cheshire, Conn.) and Maria Arenas (Stratford,
Conn.) recorded the team-high with 15 digs apiece.
Marcia Hollingsworth (Alexandria, Va.) posted six
blocks.
The Hawks return to the court tomorrow, hosting a tri-match
between Saint Anselm, Adelphi, and Pace. The Hawks take on
Pace at 11:00 a.m., Pace plays Adelphi at 1:00 p.m., and the Hawks
then take on Adelphi at 3:00 p.m.
