Manchester, N.H. (October 17) -- On Wednesday
afternoon, the Saint Anselm women's soccer team downed American
International by a 2-0 final in Northeast-10 Conference play at
Melucci Field.
The Hawks jumped on top late in the first half on a penalty kick
from freshman Gabriella Pesce (Salem, Mass.) at
the 42:01 mark. In the second half, Saint Anselm scored on an
unassisted goal from freshman Jennifer Pearl (Stoughton,
Mass.) to account for the 2-0 final.
Junior Micaela Smith (Andover, Mass.) started
the game in net for the Hawks and made four saves in 77:04 of play
before freshman Jacqueline Cooney (Braintree,
Mass.) played the final 12:56. Danielle Hodecker
(West Springfield, Mass.) made six saves for the Yellow
Jackets in the loss.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 8-7-3 overall and 5-5-3 in
the Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 7-11-0 overall
and 2-10-0 in league play. Saint Anselm is back in action on
Saturday morning when the Hawks close out the regular season
against Pace. Game time is set for 11 a.m. at Melucci Field.
