Lowell, Mass. (October 10) -- The men's soccer
team dropped a 2-1 final to No. 14 UMass Lowell on Wednesday
afternoon at UMass Lowell's Cushing Field. The loss drops the
Hawks to 4-8-1 overall, 2-7 Northeast-10, while the win improves
UMass Lowell to 10-2-1, 7-2-0 in league play.
A bizarre beginning to a soccer game, both teams scored less
than a minute and a half into the game. UMass Lowell
struck first, as Matt Dubois (Dracut, Mass.)
scored his tenth goal of the season 20 seconds into the game,
assisted by Jhony Valencia (Lowell, Mass.).
The Hawks netted an equalizer quickly, as Sam Lamptey
(Worcester, Mass.) toe-poked a pass from Rob
Thatcher (Topsfield, Mass.) past River Hawks goalkeeper,
Ryan Richards (Holden, Mass.), at the 1:21 mark.
The score remained 1-1 until the 52:42 mark when Jose Esteves
(Fall River, Mass.) netted the game-winner.
The Hawks return to the field on Saturday, October 13, hosting
Bentley at Melucci Field at 1:00 p.m.
