Saint Anselm Host Assumption Saturday

Northeast-10 Game of the Week Available On Teamline Radio

The Game: Saturday's game matches Saint Anselm against the Greyhounds of Assumption College in the Northeast-10 Conference Game of the Week at Grappone Stadium. The game will be available live online on both team websites (ww.anselm.edu / ww.assumption.edu) as well as the NE-10 site (www.northeast10.org).
 
Saint Anselm is coming into the game after a topping Plymouth State in its opener, 40-14, behind a fourth quarter explosion that saw the Hawks outscore PSU 23-0 with a 158-2 advantage in yards. In the decisive fourth, Saint Anselm held the Panthers to minus-18 rushing yards and three key turnovers. 
 
Assumption enters the game following a 28-21 loss to Stonehill as the Greyhounds' comeback effort from a 28-0 hole came up short last weekend in Worcester, Mass.
 
40's: The 40 points by Saint Anselm marks the first time since Oct. 6, 2001 that the Hawks have scored at least 40 in a game. In the last five plus seasons, the Hawks have scored at least 40 points four times, going 3-1 in those contests.
 
Home Cooking: The Hawks will be looking to win consecutive home games for the 11th time in the last six years on Saturday. In all, Saint Anselm has won 18 home games (better than 70-percent) with a best four-game home streak from Nov. 8, 2003-Oct. 2, 2004.
 
Series History: Saint Anselm holds a 5-1 advantage in the all-time series. The lone Assumption victory came in 2003 when the Greyhounds escaped a last second 52-yard field goal attempt by the Hawks for a 26-24 victory.
 
Saturday's game will be just the third contest played in Manchester, N.H. with Saint Anselm having made three straight trips to Worcester, Mass. since 2002. The last game played at Grappone Stadium in 2001 saw Saint Anselm take a 28-26 victory behind Jason Peledge's, '02 Gold Helmet winning performance. In the game, Peledge returned a kickoff 93 yards for a TD, returned a fumble 85 yards for a TD, blocked a field goal, force a fumble, record seven tackles, 144 kick return yards, and 229 all-purpose yards in being named the top Division II/III player in New England.
 
Golden Boy: In last week's win over Plymouth State, senior QB Shane Dinagen set a single game record with five touchdown passes, three of which came in the decisive fourth quarter. Dinagen's 27 pass completions also rank as the third-best single game number in that category. His efforts (27-46-1, 247, 5 TD) earned him the New England Football Writer's Gold Helmet Award for Division II/III.

Receiving TDs: Junior WRs Michael Garcarz and Mike Wojtas also added their name's to the record books by recording a pair of touchdown catches to mark the 10th and 11th time that has happened at the College, respectively.

More Garcarz: Records continue to fall for Garcarz, who had five receptions for 58 yards in the game and also made a 28-yard field goal to go along with a perfect 5-for-5 effort on PATs. The last number marked the third time a place kicker has been 5-for-5 in a game. His field goal also propelled him past former all-region selection Erol Senel, '02 into first place on the school's all-time list for made field goals with 20. In all, he totaled 20 points in the game to set a single game record in that category.

Sunny Days: Senior S Brian Sundell, an all-conference selection last season, recorded nine solo tackles against PSU on Saturday, which is tied for the fifth highest number in that category.
 
Okay Casey: Junior DT Casey Larson recorded 3.0 sacks for a loss of 14 yards last Saturday. It marked the fourth time a Saint Anselm has recorded at least 3.0 sacks in a single game. Larson added three pass breakups, another assisted tackle for a loss, and four quarterback hurries. 
 
SAC Pack: The defense recorded 8.0 sacks against Plymouth last week, marking a tie for the third-highest single game number.  The team has now recorded at least seven sacks on four occasions in the past six games with a high of 10.0 against Bryant on Oct. 15, 2004. Seven different players got into the act on Saturday with Larson leading the way.
 
Heiner Who?: Charged with the task of replacing All-America DE David Heiner, '05, the Hawks' defense did not miss a beat, wracking up 8.0 sacks and 14 tackles for a loss of 52 yards. They also forced six turnovers including five fumbles with four different players recording a force and five other players all recovering a ball. In all., 16 different defensive players were involved in either a fumble, interception, tackle for a loss or sack against the Panthers. The defense was also tough against the run, allowing 71 yards on 46 carries (1.54 ypc). In last year's game against PSU, the Hawks allowed 69 yards on 50 attempts (1.38 ypc).
 
Turnovers: The six forced turnovers by the defense tied a single game record for the Hawks, a mark reached two other times.
 
Scoreboard Watching: The 23 points scored by Saint Anslem in the fourth quarter last weekend marked a record for points in a quarter by a Hawk team. The Hawks had previously scored as many as 21 points on two seperate occasions.
 
Lukas-Not the Movie: Senior WR Kevin Lukas led the receiving corps last week with seven receptions for 52 yards, a career-high for catches for the tri-captain.
 
Back It Up: Senior RB Mike Donoghue also set persdonal bests with 96 rushing yards on 16 carries (6.0 ypc) and five receptions for 51 yards for 147 all-purpose yards. 
 
Fab Frosh: Starting three true freshmen on the offensive line, the Hawks did not allow a QB sack on Saturday and had only one tackle for a loss against PSU.
 
Assumption: The 'Hounds had a number of noteworthy efforts against Stonehill including 332 yards through the air by QB Jon Breuer and a school record eight receptions for 212 yards by Anthony Davy. The team did allow a 100-yard interception return for a TD early in the game and failed to get pressure on Stonehill QB Greg Borsari as the team registered zero sacks. Chris Grogan led the defensive effort with 16 total (10 assisted).
