N. Andover, Mass. - Tom Ruswick (Tinley Park, IL) threw a pair of touchdown passes to tight end Nick Richardson to lead Merrimack (3-4, 3-4) to a 21-0 win over Saint Anselm (4-4, 4-4). A 61-yard touchdown run by Dominic Cardine (Allentown, PA) was sandwiched between the two TD tosses as the Warriors picked up the Northeast-10 victory in front of 836 in North Andover, MA.
James Campbell (Wilmington, MA) led the Warrior defense picking off two passes, including one he returned for 27 yards. He also had a sack and four of the junior linebacker's team-high 10 tackles were for losses totaling 11 yards. Cornerback Jason Dole also had a strong game on the defensive side of the ball, picking up nine tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. Saint Anselm linebacker Matt Horgan (Salem, MA) tallied a game-high 19 tackles in the loss for the Hawks.
Campbell's initial pick set up the first touchdown of the game. After picking off a pass by Hawk quarterback Keith Comeau (Marblehead, MA), Campbell returned it to the Saint Anselm 27 yard line. Five plays later, Ruswick connected with Richardson for a 17-yard touchdown pass to give the Warriors the lead at 4:05 of the first quarter. As the first quarter was coming to a close, Saint Anselm was faced with a fourth and six and went for it but an incomplete pass by Comeau allowed the Warriors to take over on downs. Four plays later, Cardine broke free for a 61-yard scamper to put the Warriors up 14-0.
The Hawks put together their best drive of the game in the fourth quarter, marching down to the Merrimack 11-yard line. But the 12-play, 69-yard drive ended with a fumble that was recovered by Dole. The Warriors then put together their best drive, using 10 plays to go 89 yards and set up a 9-yard toss to Richardson for the final score of the game.
Ruswick completed 7-of-13 passes for 80 yards while Cardine led the rushing attack with 10 rushes for 97 yards. Comeau finished 16-of-27 for 145 yards and running back Jon Turner (Foxboro, MA) had 16 rushes for 47 yards for the Hawks.
The win snaps a four-game skid for the host Warriors.
