MANCHESTER, NH (Sep. 22) --- The home part of the Saint Anselm College football season kicks off Saturday afternoon against the Pioneers of C. W. Post of the Long Island University system. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
Tickets remain available for the game. The Grappone Stadium ticket booth will open at 11:00 A.M. and sell through to game time. Tickets are $3.00 for general admission lawn seating and are $8, $10, and $12 for grandstand seating.
Saint Anselm has motivation on its side in the opener, having been on the losing end of a lopsided loss last season in New York.
The Hawks are looking for their first victory of the season. 0-2 overall and 0-1 in EFC play, the Hawks look to rebound from a 46-21 setback at Hartwick College last weekend.
Hawks Head Coach Geoff Harlan is looking for his team to show more consistency and confidence this time around.
"We've struggled to retain our confidence early on," remarked the coach. "Our defense has given up some long plays that have hurt and our offense has been clicking later in the game, rather than earlier. Those are two areas we're working to address.
"C.W. Post is a good program,' said Harlan. "They have the top running back in the conference right now and they're looking as strong as they were last season. We expect a stiff test, but we're looking forward to that challenge."
There have been positives for the Hawks to build on thus far into the season, while, typical of a second year program, there are also areas that continue to develop.
Junior quarterback
Keith Comeau, comes into the game having completed 52% of his attempts hitting on 35 of 69 attempts for 357 yards (fourth in the league) and three touchdowns. Despite the difficult start, Saint Anselm is ranked fourth this week in passing offense in the EFC.
Comeau's favorite targets thus far include junior
Jeff Farragher, who leads the team in receptions (11) yards (96) and touchdown catches (two), averaging 48 yards per game.
Jason Case has added six catches for 57 yards while sophomore
Travis Pelletier (Deerfield) has added four grabs for 70 yards.
"Our offense is still coming together as a unit," said Harlan. "We need to play with more confidence on the field than we have the first two games. I think that confidence is developing."
All conference tight end
Kevin L'Ecuyer and fellow tight end
Brian Johnson are week to week nursing injuries, thus newcomer and junior
Aaron Dufour, formerly at Southern Connecticut State, is expected to get the nod.
In the back field,
Jon Turner has been a solid presence. Turner has carried for 145 yards on 39 attempts (3.7 yards per carry) with two touchdowns, putting him eighth in the league.
