MANCHESTER, NH (Oct. 21) -- Junior running back Jon TURNER (Foxboro, Mass.) registered his fourth straight 100 yard game rushing finishing with 167 yards on 20 carries and Keith COMEAU (Marblehead, Mass.) three for 207 yards on 18-37 passing with three touchdowns against three interceptions and Saint Anselm College outlasted Merrimack College 1914 before more than 3,100 Homecoming fans at Saint Anselm's Grappone Stadium this afternoon.
After an 0-3 start, Saint Anselm won its third in its last four to improve to 3-4 overall and evened their Eastern Football Conference record at 3-3. Merrimack dropped to 3-4 overall and 3-4 in EFC play.
Despite the low scoring, the two teams combined for 792 total yards of offense with Saint Anselm finishing with 443 on 84 plays to Merrimack's 349 yards on 77 plays.
There were a combined 10 turnovers in the game with six interceptions and four fumble recoveries.
Comeau connected with Patrick MARTIN (Stoughton, Mass.) for a 12 yard touchdown in the third quarter, tossed a 14 yard strike to Kevin L'UCUYER (Fitchburg, Mass.) two minutes later and hit Travis PELLETIER (Deerfield, NH) from five yards out with 5:13 to play for the eventual game winning score as Saint Anselm came back from an early 7-0 first quarter deficit and a 14-13 deficit early in the fourth.
Dominic CARDINE led Merrimack on the ground with 73 yards on 7 carries, while Troy LAZARO (Bridgeport, Conn.) added 71 yards on 21 carries.
Vincent McGRATH (Bedford, Mass.) went 7-30 for 157 yards but was picked off three times by the Saint Anselm defense.
Shaun St. ONGE (Wolfeboro, NH) registered two interceptions and Will St. JEAN (Londonderry, N.H.) added a game high three quarterback sacks to lead the Saint Anselm defense. Eric BANDA (Burlington, Mass.) and Alex ALAPATT (Seymour, Conn.) notched 10 tackles each to lead the Warriors.
