Drew Bourdeau

Saint Anselm College announced Monday (July, 1, 2024) the hiring of Drew Bourdeau '18 as the next head coach of the men's lacrosse program. Bourdeau replaces Mike Sciamanna, who departed in June for the head coaching position at NCAA Division I Merrimack College.

"Drew's passion for the sport, combined with his understanding of the game and his ability to develop and inspire student-athletes, make him an ideal fit to lead our men's lacrosse program," said Vice President for Athletics Daron Montgomery. "His success at various coaching levels and his personal history with Saint Anselm make this a truly exciting appointment for the College and the greater lacrosse community. We are excited about the bright future of the men's lacrosse program under his leadership."

A standout student-athlete for the Hawks, Bourdeau brings a wealth of experience both as a player and coach to the Hilltop. He most recently served as the head coach at Bedford High School for two seasons, where he was named the 2024 Division 1 and US Lacrosse New Hampshire Coach of the Year. Under his leadership, the team finished the 2024 campaign as NHIAA Division 1 Runner-Up, boasting the highest scoring offense in the NHIAA.

Coach Bourdeau has also served as head coach of New Hampshire Tomahawks Club Lacrosse team since 2021, running all aspects of the state's premier club program. He also spent time as an assistant coach at Marblehead High School and North Andover High School before taking over the Bedford program in 2023.

Bourdeau expressed his enthusiasm about returning to his alma mater. "It is a dream come true to return to the Hilltop, a place that has given me so much both on and off the field. I look forward to building on the strong foundation Coach Sciamanna established for this program and leading our student-athletes to future success," said Bourdeau. "I'd like to thank [Vice President for Athletics] Daron Montgomery, Associate Athletic Director Phil Rowe, and everyone in the Athletic Department for this opportunity."

A two-time All-NE10 choice, Bourdeau started 56 of his 57 games for the Hawks over his four-year career. He totaled 129 ground balls and 62 caused turnovers while also scoring a pair of goals. His play helped Saint Anselm improve from 2-11 in his freshman season of 2015 to 11-5 in 2018 and a national ranking. He was selected to participate in the annual New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's (NEILA) East-West Senior All-Star Game following his senior year.

Bourdeau served as the Co-Chair of Saint Anselm's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). With SAAC, he has helped lead a variety of initiatives, including opening the college's Hope Happens Here chapter. He has also earned Academic All-New England honors and was the Saint Anselm nominee for the Northeast-10 Conference's Man of the Year award. He was named to the Dean's List and Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll a combined 10 times, served as a New Student Orientation leader for three years, and was a part of numerous other community service activities.

Following his senior season, Bourdeau was selected by Major League Lacrosse's Boston Cannons out of the league's player pool, attending the team's training camp and trained with the team for three months in 2019.

Bourdeau, a 2018 graduate of Saint Anselm College with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and a minor in Secondary Education, is married to the former Clairee Putnam '18, a women's basketball student-athlete for the Hawks from 2014-18. The couple resides in Manchester.
