Derek Edgerly

Derek Edgerly is entering his first season as the Assistant Coach with the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team in 2020-21.

Edgerly, a native of Stoneham, Mass., joins the Hawks after a one-year stint at Matignon High School as the Head Coach of the Boys Varsity Ice Hockey team. He also worked with the Boston Imperials Youth Program as its Skills Coach.

Edgerly also held a four-year stint as an Assistant Coach at Arlington High School and was responsible for both offense and special teams. Additionally, he was the head coach for the Wakefield Memorial High School hockey program from 2006 to 2014, leading the team to its first postseason appearance in eight years and numerous appearances in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) State Tournament. The Warriors made three North Division Finals appearances with a Division I Championship game in his fifth season.

Edgerly held the role of Assistant Coach from 2002 through 2006 at Winchester High School and also Melrose High School.

In his college days, Edgerly played two seasons at Northeastern University, suspending his education to pursue a professional hockey career. He competed in 49 games as a member of the Huskies, scoring 17 points with 14 of those coming as a freshman.

He was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1990 National Hockey League (NHL) Draft in the sixth round and was assigned to the Lakeland Ice Warriors for three seasons, starting in 1992. He then played one season each with the Jacksonville Bullets and the Saginaw Lumber Kings.

While playing for Lakeland, he assisted in physical, mental, and skills development of team members and coordinated offensive and defensive strategies with the coaching staff. He also represented the team throughout the community via public relations, business development, and various promotional programs.

On the ice as a professional, Edgerly had 34 points on 24 goals and 10 assists in his first season as a member of the Warriors. He responded with the best season of his professional career in 1993-94, scoring 76 points on 35 goals and 41 assists. Edgerly kept his offensive contributions going in the 1994-95 season, totaling 70 points on 28 goals and 42 assists across 52 games.
