RINDGE, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team saw its season come to a close with a first-round loss to top-seeded Franklin Pierce in the Northeast-10 (NE10) Championship. What began as a pitcher's duel through the first four innings shifted dramatically in the fifth, when the Ravens broke a 1-0 game open with a grand slam. From there, Franklin Pierce never looked back, adding two more insurance runs late to seal a 7-1 win and advance to the next round.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After three hitless innings to start the game, Franklin Pierce broke through in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run by Michael Quiros.

In the fifth, the Ravens capitalized on a hit-by-pitch and two walks to load the bases with one out. Julien Monks made it count, launching a grand slam to extend the lead to 5-0.

Franklin Pierce added two insurance runs in the eighth, as Quiros led off with a single and Kiobel Lugo followed with a two-run shot to make it 7-0.

Sophomore Mavrick Bourdeau (Billerica, Mass.) put the Hawks on the board with a solo home run to lead off the ninth, but it was the only offense Saint Anselm could muster in a 7-1 loss in the NE10 Championship opening round.

The game marked the 76th all-time meeting between Saint Anselm and Franklin Pierce, with the Ravens improving to 58-17-1 in the series and 3-0 in postseason matchups.

Sophomore Mavrick Bourdeau (Billerica, Mass.) provided the Hawks' lone run with his fifth home run of the season, tying him for second-most on the team. His run scored was his 48th of the season, the third-most in single-season program history and the highest total since Robert Kelly '13 scored 50 runs in 2012.

Freshman George Slauson (Plymouth, Mass.) collected two hits in the loss, marking his 12th multi-hit effort of the season—third-most on the team.

Sophomore Matteo Cubello (Bethlehem, N.Y.) also notched a pair of hits, his third multi-hit game in his last four starts.
