HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE):
  • With two outs in the top of the first inning, Adelphi took advantage of an inning-extending error by Saint Anselm to bring home the opening run. Joe Pellegrino brought a run home with an RBI single and then came around to score from first on a double by Johnny Catuosco, making it 2-0.

  • Senior Jared Reminder (Warwick, R.I.), who started on the mound for the Hawks, struck out the side in the top of the third
  • That allowed Saint Anselm to tie the game in the bottom half. A sacrifice fly by sophomore Brendan Gonzalez (Mechanicville, N.Y.) brought home freshman Luke Douglas (Bellingham, Mass.) to make it 2-2.
  • The Panthers regained control in the fourth as Bryan McCleary blasted a solo home run on the first pitch of the inning to left field. Greyson Pizzonia followed with an RBI single, and Pellegrino then broke the game open with a three-run homer, pushing the score to 7-2.
  • The Hawks chipped away again in the fifth. Freshman George Slauson (Plymouth, Mass.) beat out a throw on an RBI fielder's choice to score Bourdeau, and freshman Jackson Powers came around on a passed ball to trim the deficit to 7-4.
  • Saint Anselm completed the comeback in the seventh. Gonzalez's second sacrifice fly of the game brought in Bourdeau, and Slauson followed by living up to his cleanup role. He smacked an opposite-field home run out to left, which tied the game at 7-7.
  • Adelphi briefly regained the lead in the eighth after recording three straight two-out singles, with the last from Jack Tate that scored Pizzonia for the go-ahead run.
