GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College softball team split its doubleheader at Adelphi on Thursday. Game one saw the Panthers' pitching lead them to a strong 6-0 win. The Hawks bounced back in game two, edging out a 4-3 victory behind a strong offensive performance from sophomore Brooke Tardugno (Methuen, Mass.).

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- Adelphi struck first in the bottom of the first, bringing across Zee Zee Shreter for the game's first run on a throwing error.
- After a pair of scoreless innings, the Panthers extended their lead in the fourth. The scoring began with an RBI groundout by Courtney Murphy, followed by an RBI bunt single from Shreter. Shreter and Reeghan McCarthy later came around to score on a double by Courtney Wengryn, stretching the lead to 5-0.
- Another run came across in the fifth for Adelphi. Ellen Tarjan led off the inning with a triple down the right field line, and she scored one batter later on a line drive to center by Tori Parente that made it 6-0.
- Saint Anselm was unable to get a runner on base in the final inning and eventually fell by a final score of 6-0 in game one of the doubleheader.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GAME 1):
- Adelphi finished with six runs on 11 hits, including two extra-base hits. The Panthers left eight runners on base and committed one error in the field.
- Saint Anselm was held scoreless and recorded just four hits in the game. The Hawks left four runners on base and committed four errors defensively.
- Senior Sam Wiberg (Exeter, N.H.) collected two of the four hits for the Hawks, including the lone extra-base hit with a double in the third inning.
- Four different players recorded multiple hits for the Panthers, while five players notched at least one RBI.
- This marked the 32nd all-time meeting between Saint Anselm and Adelphi, with the Panthers improving to 17-13-1 in the series. The win snapped a short two-game win streak by the Hawks.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- After two scoreless innings to start the game, Saint Anselm opened the scoring in the top of the third. The inning began with a leadoff double from sophomore Jamie Calkins (Charlton, Mass.), who was promptly joined on base by sophomore Brooke Tardugno (Methuen, Mass.) after a bunt single. A walk by Wiberg loaded the bases, and back-to-back walks by senior Audrey Arsenault (Stow, Mass.) and junior Rose Reitmeyer (Oxford, Conn.) gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
- Saint Anselm scored another run in the fourth after back-to-back doubles by Tardugno and Wiberg, making it 3-0.
- Adelphi responded with their first run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a solo home run by Brianna Pearson.
- The Hawks added a crucial insurance run in the sixth. Freshman Katie Fox (Dracut, Mass.) doubled and later scored on a single by Tardugno that made it 4-1.
- The Panthers chipped away at the lead again in the bottom of the sixth after a two-run homer off the bat of Julianna Sanzone, cutting it to 4-3 heading into the final inning.
- Adelphi got the potential tying run on base in the seventh, but sophomore Sam Ryan (Tewksbury, Mass.) closed it out for the Hawks, earning her second save of the season to secure a split in the doubleheader.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GAME 2):
- Saint Anselm finished with four rus on six hits – four of them doubles – and committed just one error in the field. They drew four walks and left six runners on base.
- Adelphi collected their three runs on seven hits, including two home runs, and played a clean game defensively. They drew a pair of walks and left seven runners stranded.
- Sophomore Kendra Lee (Endicott, N.Y.) earned the start in the pitching circle and got the win for the Hawks after pitching five solid innings. She allowed five hits and three earned runs to pick up her sixth win of the season. Lee is holding opponents to a .204 batting average this year, the third-best mark among pitchers in the NE10.
- Ryan closed out the final two innings for Saint Anselm, giving up only two hits and a walk while keeping the Panthers scoreless to preserve the one-run win. She has now pitched 116.1 innings this season, the third-most in the conference.
- Tardugno had a standout game for the Hawks, going 3-3 at the plate, scoring twice, and driving in a run. She also stole her 30th base of the season, which is just one shy of tying Nicole Boucher '14 for the second-most in a single season in program history.
- This marked the 33rd all-time meeting between Saint Anselm and Adelphi, with the Hawks improving to 14-17-1 in the series.
