MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm softball team secured another conference win after a close 3-2 victory over Southern Connecticut State (SCSU) on Tuesday. Senior Sam Wiberg (Exeter, N.H.) had a 3-3 game at the plate and played a pivotal role in all three of the Hawks' runs as they came away with the win. The second game of the doubleheader was halted due to weather and will be resumed next week.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- Southern Connecticut State opened the scoring in the top of the first inning after a leadoff single by Karley Austin. She then stole second and came around to score on an RBI single by Izzy Ingersoll as the Owls took a 1-0 lead.
- Saint Anselm quickly answered in the bottom half. Senior Audrey Arsenault (Stow, Mass.) led off with a triple and scored one batter later when Wiberg launched her second home run in as many days, giving the Hawks a 2-1 advantage.
- The Hawks tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth with Wiberg crossing the plate again, this time on an RBI single by sophomore Caitlyn Duquette (Bedford, N.H.).
- The Owls made things interesting in the top of the seventh as Cassidy Sullivan touched home on a wild pitch, but the visitors stranded the tying run and the Hawks hung on for a 3-2 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GAME 1):
- Saint Anselm recorded three runs on eight hits and two walks while leaving six runners on base.
- Southern Connecticut State scored two runs on six hits and two walks while also leaving six runners stranded.
- Wiberg went a perfect 3-3 at the plate for the Hawks with two singles and a home run. It was her sixth game this season with three or more hits. The senior also drove in two runs and scored twice.
- Duquette also reached base in all three of her plate appearances for Saint Anselm, going 2-2 with two singles, a walk, and an RBI.
- Arsenault ripped her second triple of the season for the Hawks, tying her for the team lead in that category.
- Sophomore Sam Ryan (Tewksbury, Mass.) earned her 12th win of the season — second-most in the NE10 — after tossing a complete game. She allowed six hits and two earned runs while striking out five over seven innings of work.
- ?This marked the 30th all-time meeting between Saint Anselm and Southern Connecticut State, with the Hawks improving to 16-14 in the series. The win also extended Saint Anselm's streak to five straight victories over SCSU, tying the longest win streak in the series history.
GAME 2
- Game 2 was halted in the bottom of the fourth inning due to weather with Saint Anselm up 2-1. The game will be resumed on Tuesday, April 22nd at Southern New Hampshire at 6:15 p.m.
