Women's Tennis Splits Weekend Matches in Florida

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team traveled to Florida for a pair of matches this past weekend. First, they went to St. Augustine to battle No. 6 Flagler on Friday, February 28th. Despite some close results, the Hawks ultimately fell against their nationally ranked opponent, 7-0. They rebounded quickly, traveling to Jacksonville and securing a 6-1 win over Edward Waters on Saturday, March 1st.

  • Saint Anselm returns home and take a short break before resuming with home matches against Post on Saturday, April 12th at 1:00 p.m.
     



HOW IT HAPPENED (MATCH 1):

  • The Hawks dropped the first three doubles matches, including a competitive 6-4 loss in the No. 1 match.
  • Flagler continued the momentum, winning all six singles matches in two sets, although the No. 1 singles match went to a tiebreaker in the opening set.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (MATCH 1):
  • Junior Irene Garbo (Assemini, Sardinia, Italy) was part of the competitive matches in both singles and doubles in the No. 1 slot.
  • This was the first ever meeting between the two programs.
 


HOW IT HAPPENED (MATCH 2):

  • The Hawks won all three doubles matches with juniors Julie Börschig (Stuttgart, Germany) and Camila Heredia Osante (Oaxaca, Mexico) winning 6-0 in the No. 2 slot.
  • Saint Anselm continued to play strong and won all but one of the singles matches.
 


INSIDE THE NUMBERS (MATCH 2):

  • Junior Natalia Gonzalez Ramos (Guadalajara, Spain) and Heredia Osante did not surrender a game in their singles wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
  • Every student-athlete contributed to winning a match in either singles or doubles.
  • This was the first ever meeting between the two programs.
