Softball Extends Win Streak to Six with Sweep of Molloy

MELBOURNE, FL – Saint Anselm softball remained undefeated at the Space Coast Games with a sweep of Molloy. After taking a 2-0 pitchers' duel in Game 1, the Hawks' offense exploded for a 12-1 win in six innings to close out the day.


UP NEXT:

  • Saint Anselm will have Saint Patrick's Day off before returning to action on Tuesday, March 18th, with a matchup against Eckerd at 12:15 PM, followed by a game against UT Dallas at 4:45 PM.


 

GAME 1

Score: Saint Anselm 2, Molloy (7 inn.)

Win: Lee (1-1) Loss: Dabbadie (3-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):

  • It was a slow start to the game, with just three total hits through the top of the third inning.

  • The Hawks broke through in the bottom of the third with the only runs of the game, courtesy of junior Rose Reitmeyer (Oxford, Conn.). Her double to right-center drove in seniors Audrey Arsenault (Stow, Mass.) and Sam Wiberg (Exeter, N.H.), giving Saint Anselm the lead.

  • Molloy threatened with a runner on third in both the fourth and seventh innings but was unable to capitalize, as the Hawks held on for a 2-0 win in a pitchers' duel.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GAME 1): 

  • This marked the seventh meeting between the programs, with Saint Anselm taking a 4-3 lead in the series.

  • Sophomore Kendra Lee (Endicott, N.Y.) earned the win, pitching 6 ? innings while allowing just five hits and one walk.

  • Sophomore Sam Ryan (Tewksbury, Mass.) closed it out, earning the save with a strikeout in her two batters faced.

  • Four different Hawks recorded a hit, with Reitmeyer's double as the lone extra-base hit of the game for Saint Anselm.

Win: Ryan 5-0 Loss: Moussa 1-4

Records: Saint Anselm 9-3; Molloy 4-6

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):

  • The scoring started early in the top of the first with a two-RBI single by junior Rose Reitmeyer (Oxford, Conn.), who later came around to score on an RBI single by freshman Katie Fox (Dracut, Mass.).

  • The Hawks added another run in the second inning when sophomore Caitlyn Duquette (Bedford, N.H.) drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Brooke Tardugno (Methuen, Mass.).

  • The bats stayed hot in the third inning, highlighted by Reitmeyer launching the first home run of the season for the Hawks, picking up her third RBI of the game. Duquette also contributed with an RBI single, bringing home Fox from third to extend the lead to six.

  • Molloy got a run back in the bottom half of the inning when Emily McGurk led off with a triple and later scored on an RBI single by Amaya Page.

  • After a pair of scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth, the Hawks erupted in the sixth, plating six runs. Sophomore Jamie Calkins (Charlton, Mass.) got things started with an RBI single, followed by Reitmeyer scoring on an errant throw. Fox doubled to bring in another run before scoring on a single from senior Alyssa Wironen (Leominster, Mass.). Senior Stephanie Tardugno (Methuen, Mass.) added a run-scoring triple, and sophomore Madison Carmichael (Contoocook, N.H.) capped off the inning with an RBI single, driving in Brooke Tardugno from third.

  • Up by double-digit runs, sophomore Sam Ryan (Tewksbury, Mass.) ended the game early, allowing only a walk in the bottom of the sixth inning. 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GAME 2): 

  • The all-time series is now 5-3 in favor of Saint Anselm, with the two game win streak tied for longest in the series. The 8 run margin of victory was the largest by either team in the series as well. 

  • This victory marks the Hawks' sixth straight win, they have won every game on their Space Coast trip so far. 

  • Sam Ryan earned the win with a dominant performance, pitching all six innings while allowing just four hits with one earned run. 

  • Molloy used three arms on the game, with only 6 of the 12 runs scored being earned. 

  • Rose Reitmeyer had 2 hits and a walk. Coming around to score on three trips with 3 RBI, including the Team's first home run of the season.

  • Senior Sam Wiberg (Exeter, N.H.) continued her strong start at the plate this season with three hits in four at-bats, her season average of .525 ranking top ten in Division II.
