HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Anselm would register the first offensive swing on Friday evening as senior Heather McAvoy (Long Beach, N.Y.) grabbed an early shot on goal. Just past the first minute of action the Hawks would earn a powerplay on a slashing call on the Greyhounds. Saint Anselm would struggle to be productive in the advantage with senior Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) grabbing the sole good look on the Assumption net. Halfway through the period the home team would grasp momentum but junior keeper Ava Hills (Pembroke, N.H.) would keep the game scoreless. The Hawks would end the period with a shot from Nicola Forth (Schwenksville, Pa.) but would go into the break tied 0-0.
  • The home Greyhounds would maintain the early possession in the second period but halfway through the period the Hawks would rally behind a pair of shots from junior Brooklyn Schneiderhan (Helena, Mont.) but be unable to convert. The first score of the evening would come from the home team in the 17th minute of action. Heather Ajakie would grab the goal for the Greyhounds scoring at even strength on her first score of the season. The lone goal would stand at the end of the period, giving Assumption a 1-0 lead going into the final 20 minutes of action.
  • Assumption would continue to maintain control in the final period maintaining possession for the opening fourth of play. The senior attacking pair of Turner and Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.) would look to even the match but would be rejected by Weiser. Halfway through the period the back breaking goal for the Saint Anselm squad would come. At 11:11 Ajakie scored her second goal of the contest in shorthanded fashion to finalize the Greyhound victory.
