HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After killing an early penalty, Saint Anselm scored the first three goals of the game to take the lead. Senior Jaycie Balboni (Billerica, Mass.) opened the scoring a little over five minutes in, while McDermod and junior Julia Marsden (Norfolk, Mass.) added unassisted goals for the Hawks to make it 3-0.
- Erin McIlroy responded with the first goal of the day for Franklin Pierce off a feed from Courtney Hannes with less than four minutes left in the first quarter.
- The Hawks found the back of the net twice more before the end of the period to take a 5-1 lead with McDermod and Hill each scoring in the final two minutes.
- McDermod continued her excellent start to the season with her third goal of the game less than three minutes into the second quarter. That marked her second career hat trick in just three games played.
- The offense slowed down a bit for the Hawks as they failed to score for the next 11 minutes. At the other end, senior goaltender Elizabeth Driscoll (Marblehead, Mass.) kept her team's five-goal cushion intact with three saves throughout the second period.
- The game looked to be heading for halftime with the score still at 6-1, but Saint Anselm quickly came to life with three goals in the final 26 seconds. Hill scored two of those goals for the Hawks to complete her hat trick with the final score coming right before the halftime buzzer.
- Saint Anselm picked up right where they left off in the third quarter. Hill set up both senior Abigail Christmas (Elmira, N.Y.) and sophomore Lucy Mawn (Harwich, Mass.) for their first goals of the game as the Hawks extended their lead to 11-1.
- McIlroy temporarily stopped the bleeding for Franklin Pierce with her second goal, but McDermod and Balboni each went on to score in the final few minutes of the quarter as Saint Anselm took a 13-2 advantage into the fourth.
- Four different student-athletes scored during the final period of play for the Hawks. Mawn scored her second goal, while freshman Devan Spinale (Canton, Mass.) tallied her first collegiate points with a goal and an assist as the home team made it 17-2.
- Olivia Robb scored the final goal of the game with eight seconds left for the Ravens, but the Hawks proved to be too much as they soared to the 17-3 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Saint Anselm held a 34-18 advantage in total shots and a 24-12 edge in shots on goal over Franklin Pierce.
- The Hawks also held a slight 11-10 lead over the Ravens on draw controls. Sophomore Julia Rowley (Dover, N.H.) led the Hawks with a career-high five draw controls.
- Saint Anselm maintained a narrow edge in the ground ball battle, scooping up 24 compared to 18 picked up by Franklin Pierce. Christmas led the Hawks with a career-high five ground balls.
- The Ravens committed 20 turnovers in the game, while the Hawks had 16 giveaways.
- The Hawks defense caused 16 of those turnovers, while the Ravens defense caused 10. Hill matched her career-best with a team-high five caused turnovers for the home team.
- On clear attempts, Saint Anselm went 18 for 20 (90.0 percent). Franklin Pierce had 12 successful clears out of 17 attempts (70.6 percent).
- The Hawks scored twice out of their four free-position shots. The Ravens were held scoreless on two free-position chances.
- The game featured six penalties with both teams earning three. There were two green cards and four yellow cards issued. Neither side scored a player-up goal in the contest.
- Hill and McDermod led Saint Anselm with seven of the team's 17 goals. Balboni and Mawn scored two goals apiece for the Hawks, with Mawn tallying a pair of assists as well.
- McDermod is now leading the team and the NE10 with nine goals this season. Five student-athletes are tied for second on the squad with six goals through three games.
- Six other student-athletes scored one goal for the Hawks, and a total of seven players recorded at least one assist. Junior Lucy Davis (Roswell, Ga.) notched her first career helper in the win.
- McIlroy led Franklin Pierce with two goals. Robb scored the other for the Ravens.
- Driscoll made nine saves in 49 minutes of action for the Hawks to earn the win. She now has 27 career goaltending victories, which ties the program record that has stood for almost a decade.
- Katherine Hickey made six saves and allowed 13 goals in the cage to earn the loss for the Ravens.
- This marked the 26th all-time meeting between these two programs. Saint Anselm improves to 22-4 overall against Franklin Pierce in the series that began in 2000.
