HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Anselm came out skating quick on Saturday looking for redemption from the previous 2-1 loss on Friday night. Junior Mackenzie Moss (Victoria, Minn.) registered the Hawks first look on net in the first minute of play. Halfway through the first period of play the Hawks would give up a holding penalty and give LIU the power-play. Saint Anslem would escape the power-play giving up five shots but strong goaltending from Carina Mancini (Middlefield, Conn.) would keep the Sharks scoreless. The best look for LIU came in the final 20-seconds of play as the shot would rip off the pipe and be waved off by the officials leaving the game at 0-0 at the end of one.
- Long Island opened up scoring in the second period scoring a goal just seven seconds into the game as Ashley Morrow scored at even strength putting them up 1-0. Less than two minutes later the Sharks would go up 2-0 as Bri Eid would score on a power-play from Carrigan Umpherville and Morrow. Halfway through the period Saint Anselm found success on a power-play of their own as senior Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) scored her 50th career goal off of a feed from teammate Brenna Young (Wilmington, Mass.). The Hawks would continue to maintain pressure scoring in the 11th minute on another power-play as senior Gracee Donovan (Orchard Park, N.Y.) scored on a feed from Turner and Cora Webber (Johnson, R.I.). The teams would go into the final break tied at 2-2.
- The two teams would battle through the majority of the third period. Halfway through the period Saint Anselm would have their best look from junior Brooklyn Schneiderhan (Helena, Mont.) who would just barely be rejected from the keeper. The game would continue to be a battle back and forth but neither team would be able to convert on the offensive end.
- At the end of the overtime period the two teams remained locked at two goals after both teams each had close calls. A shootout period of 6 skaters would determine LIU the overall winner on the afternoon.
