HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Anselm kick-started the evening with the first shot from senior Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) who was turned away by the Skyhawks defensive line. The home team would have a response hitting the Hawks goalie Ava Hills (Pembroke, N.H.) with back-to-back shots but the junior would keep them scoreless. In the 11th minute of action Saint Anselm would earn an advantage on a slashing call. During the power-play the Hawks would only register one shot on goal. The home team would just barely get rejected by Hills in the 14th minute. In the 15th minute a shot from senior Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Mich.) missed just wide but set up the offensive momentum for Saint Anselm. At 15:09 junior Brooklyn Schneiderhan (Helena, Mont.) scored at even strength off of a feed from teammates Turner and Brenna Young (Wilmington, Mass.). Saint Anselm held onto the 1-0 lead going into the break.
- Stonehill came out of the break ready to even the score, firing the first three shots on net of the second period. The home team would dominate the ice and maintain the majority of possession for the first 10-minutes of the second period. Just before the halfway point the Skyhawks would even the score as Peyton Wise scored at even strength from teammates Maddison Achtyl and Pusle Dyring-Andersen. Saint Anselm would look to regain the lead with a quick pair of shots from senior Gracee Donovan (Orchard Park, N.Y.) but with no avail. As the period continued to wind down the home team would storm the Saint Anselm defense with pressure. In the final minute of the period the front ice duo of Turner and Schneiderhan would look to regain the lead, but Alexsa Caron kept the Hawks at bay. The teams would head into the final break locked at 1-1.
- In the final period of regulation, the Skyhawks grabbed the first three shots each missing wide of their target. Saint Anselm grabbed their first shot on target from Donovan just before the third minute of action. At 3:52 the Hawks earned an advantage on a hooking call against the home team. Saint Anselm would be unable to convert on the power-play. Halfway through the period the teams would be at the standstill 1-1 score. Both teams would continue to maintain pressure on the opposing defensive lines but neither team would be able to win in regulation.
- In the overtime period Saint Anselm would grab the first shot on goal from Jackson. Four minutes into the overtime period Saint Anselm earned a power-play on a boarding call against the Skyhawks. The Hawks would only be able to register one shot on goal during the advantage and be unable to capitalize. Both teams would remain scoreless in the first overtime period of play. Stonehill would go on to score 27 seconds into the second overtime to win game one of the series.
